Marin County Free Library Events

Three recent events at the Bolinas Library.

Gratitude Event

Our event this year was at the Bolinas Rod and Boat Club and featured Keith Hansen, our local bird expert and watercolor painter of birds. He narrated a video of a carbon free year of birding in our area. A crowded room of library donors were enchanted by his capturing this glimpse of 242 species in our local water, trees and air within 48 minutes. Local donors of cheeses, wines, breads, crackers and desserts complemented the early fall evening.

Pat Barton Tree Planting

In August 2017, Pat Barton, a longtime member of the Friends, died suddenly and to our great sadness. To honor her passing, we (in cooperation with the Bolinas Community Center) built a new redwood planter box and planted a hawthorne tree in front of the Bolinas Library. We dedicated the tree and affixed a bronze plaque for Pat in a ceremony on her birthday, 16 March 2018. Her husband, son, relatives and friends attended. The reception that followed was in the Bolinas Library which was decorated with pieces of Pat’s weaving and other art.

Pizza Event

The Friends along with the Bolinas Community Center sponsored an evening around the documentary film, Arrangiarsi, directed by Mateo Trachone. The award winning piece, filmed in Naples and environs, revealed the dramatic history of pizza and its sources. About 100 people attended and enjoyed local pizza as they watched the film and a Q and A with the director. The film had been shown at the Mill Valley Film festival.
